Sidney Barritt, MD, FACP
Dr. Barritt received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the College of Holy Cross and graduated from Cornell University Medical College. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Virginia and obtained fellowship training in gastroenterology at the Medical College of Virginia.
Dr. Barritt is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology and was recognized for Advanced Achievement in Internal Medicine in 1987. Prior to joining Gastroenterology Consultants of Southwest Virginia in 2000, Dr. Barritt served as Chief of Gastroenterology at the Salem Veterans Administration Medical Center from 1975 to 2000.
Vishal Bhagat, MD FAGC
Dr. Bhagat was born in India, where he finished his medical education and Internal Medicine residency at Gujarat University in Ahmedabad. He emigrated to the United States in 2003 and completed another residency in Internal Medicine at the State University of New York in Buffalo, serving an additional year as Chief Resident in Medicine. He subsequently completed additional studies in Liver Disease and Transplantation at the University of Miami before returning to SUNY Buffalo for his fellowship in gastroenterology.
Dr. Bhagat is board certified in Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He joined Gastroenterology Consultants of Southwest Virgina in October, 2010. He is particularly interested in colon cancer prevention, liver diseases, and inflammatory bowel diseases.
Andrew Clark, MD
Dr. Andrew Clark joined the Endoscopy Center of SWVA anesthesia staff effective April 1, 2017. He attended medical school and completed his anesthesiology residency at the University of Virginia. He completed a cardiac fellowship at Harvard Medical School and taught anesthesia at the University of Colorado. He returned to Virginia and redirected his clinical focus to Ambulatory Surgery Centers in order to allow more time for family and community. He has served as the Medical Director at several surgery centers in Virginia and has accumulated extensive clinical skills and experience in this setting.
Mark Hamilton, MD
Dr. Mark Hamilton has extensive experience in Anesthesiology provision in multiple hospital/clinic settings and in a diversity of surgery/procedure types. He received a Doctorate of Medicine from University of Louisville College of Medicine in Louisville, Kentucky. He completed an internship at the University of Louisville Hospital as well as a medical residency program. His Fellowship in General Clinical Anesthesiology was completed at Monash Medical Center in Melbourne, Australia. Dr. Hamilton joined our anesthesia staff effective January 1, 2017.
Michael Lee, DO
Dr. Lee received a B.A. in biology from West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. He received a D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) from West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine.
Dr. Lee completed a Rotating Internship at Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania a three year Internal Medicine Residency at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a Gastroenterology Fellowship at Allegheny General Hospital.
Dr. Lee joined Gastroenterology Consultants of Southwest Virginia on July 1, 2007 and resides in Roanoke with his family.
Lee Meyers, III, MD, FACG
Dr. Meyers received a B. A. from Haverford College in Haverford, Pennsylvania. He completed medical school at University of Maryland Medical School in Baltimore, Maryland.
His internship and residency were completed at University of North Carolina Medical School in Chapel Hill North Carolina. Dr. Meyers completed a Fellowship in Liver Disease and a Fellowship in Digestive Diseases at University of North Carolina Medical School. His final year of Fellowship was spent in extensive training in therapeutic biliary endoscopy. He also functioned as an attending physician on consultation service and in the Endoscopy Unit. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine Gastroenterology.
Dr. Meyer’s joined Gastroenterology Consultants of Southwest Virginia in August, 1995 and he resides in Roanoke with his family.
Dennis B. Weiserbs, MD, FACG
Dr. Weiserbs grew up in the Northeast and attended the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia for both his undergraduate and medical degrees. He obtained additional training in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology/Hepatology at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia, where he later served on the medical school faculty. In 1987, Dr. Weiserbs moved to Roanoke and established Gastroenterology Consultants of Southwest Virginia with Dr. John Morgan.
Dr. Weiserbs has had appointments as Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech-Carilion Medical School. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology.
Dr. Weiserbs serves as the Medical Director of the Endoscopy Center of Southwest Virginia. He is particularly interested in colorectal cancer prevention, inflammatory bowel disease, and therapeutic endoscopy.
Nirish S. Shah, MD
Dr. Shah received his medical degree from BJ Medical College, Gujarat University in Ahmedabad, India in December, 2001. He completed a Medical Residency between July 2002 and June 2005 in Internal Medicine at Harbor Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and was Chief Resident from July, 2004 thru June, 2005. Dr. Shah completed a Fellowship Program in June 2011 at University of Maryland, Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Shah completed Board Certification in Internal Medicine in 2005 and was certified in Gastroenterology by the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2012. He received training in advanced endoscopy at the Asian Institute of Gastroenterology in Hyderabad, India
Dr. Shah joined Gastroenterology Consultants of Southwest Virginia in February, 2014 and resides in Roanoke, Virginia with his family.
Megan C. McDonald, PA-C
Megan McDonald, PA-C completed a Bachelors of Science Degree at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia where she was listed on the Faculty List of Distinguished Students, Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and was the recipient of multiple scholarships.
Megan received a Bachelors of Science in Physician Assistant studies at Jefferson College of Health Sciences in Roanoke, Virginia where she was listed on the President's List and was a member of the American Association of Physician Assistants and Virginia Association of Physician Assistants. She has completed Certification as a Physician Assistant.
Megan joined Gastroenterology Consultants of Southwest Virginia in November, 2008 and resides in the Roanoke region with her family.
Debra Bright, FNP
Debra Bright, FNP completed a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Psychology at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. She completed a Bachelors of Nursing and Masters of Nursing Degrees at Radford University in Radford, Virginia.
Debra is ANCC Board Certified as a Family Nurse Practitioner. She has extensive experience in the Roanoke Valley having worked for primary care offices, ambulatory surgery center, long term care, and the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Salem, Virginia.
Debra joined Gastroenterology Consultants of Southwest Virginia on February 1, 2016 and resides in Roanoke, Virginia with her family where she is active in educational events in the community.
